General  information about the conference

The second edition of the International Conference on the Emergence of Africa, organized by the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in partnership with the World Bank and the African Development Bank (ADB), will gather about 400 personalities and representatives of governments, international development institutions, research and academic centers, the private sector, civil society organizations, etc.

This conference, which will be heightened by the presence of African Heads of State and Government, will address various issues related to the governance of public institutions and the inclusive and sustainable structural transformation of Africa.

It will be organized as plenary sessions, parallel high-level sessions and side events. The plenary sessions will include presentations followed by discussions on two central themes "The governance of public institutions" and "The inclusive and sustainable structural transformation of Africa".

Participants are encouraged to engage in direct exchanges and share country experiences and case studies on best practices and to provide any useful documentation that will be capitalized with the publication of a book on the effective Implementation of plans for emergence.

Rapporteurs will be appointed for each session to take note and summarize the main thematic recommendations. Session reports will be compiled for the final report, which will be shared with all participants. Documents will be translated into French and English.

The sessions will start each day at 8:30am from March 28 to 30, 2017.


Venue of the Conference

The second edition of the International Conference on the Emergence of Africa will take place from March 28 to 30, 2017, in Abidjan, at SOFITEL ABIDJAN HOTEL IVOIRE. Access to the Conference venue will be facilitated by the provision of an entry badge.

Internet access will be free of charge and available 24 hours a day in the rooms and at the conference venue.

A plenary session room and several other rooms will be provided for group work and the press.

In addition to invitations sent to governments and higher rank experts, each participant is strongly encouraged to register online. Responsibility for participants’ travel costs

Delegations/participants’ travel and subsistence expenses will be financed by their governments, institutions or by development partners. The subsistence costs must cover the return air ticket, per diems and accommodation expenses.

Information regarding the sponsorship of participants expenses must be provided during the online registration (www.africa-emergence.com).


Accommodation of the delegates  

Each participant is invited to contact/directly consult the reception desks of the hotels and residences to book a room. Each participant is invited to cover his/her expenses or contact his/her sponsor to pay for his/her accommodation expenses.

For hotels of the Accord group (Pullman, Novotel, Ibis Plateau/Marcory), the deadline for online bookings is March 20, 2017. An indicative list of hotels close to the venue of the conference is available on the website (www.africa-emergence.com).

Going to the venue of the Conference

Shuttle buses will be available for participants to facilitate their travel. Shuttle bus schedules from the accommodation sites to the venue of the Conference are:

Beyond these hours, participants will have to take a taxi. They must expect to spend at least CFAF 5,000 (about €8 /US$ 10).


Participants will have their meals at the venue during the Conference.

Two coffee breaks (morning and evening) and a daily lunch will be provided during the three days of the Conference. A dinner will be offered by the Government on March 28, 2017 at SOFITEL ABIDJAN HOTEL IVOIRE

The hotel has a private restaurant, a bar, a VIP lounge and a few shops.  Any private consumption shall be borne by the participants.

Yellow Fever:

The yellow fever vaccine is compulsory to enter the country. A medical certificate must be presented upon arrival. However, a medical service within the airport will be operational 24 hours a day for vaccines. A standard amount of CFAF 7,000 (€14/ US$ 20) will be charged for the medical certificate.

Other practical arrangements

  • A medical team will be mobilized for emergency cases during the Conference.
  • Several internationally renowned clinics are close to the venue of the Conference.
  • Please bring any special medication in sufficient supply, in case it is not possible to get it in Abidjan
  • Two individual health forms to be filled are available on the website (www.africa-emergence.com) and will be useful for airport formalities.


Visa requirement  

List of countries that may enter the territory of Côte d’Ivoire without visas:

- Africa: ECOWAS member States, Chad, Mauritania, the Central African Republic, Seychelles, Tunisia, Morocco and Congo Brazzaville - Asia: Singapore and the Philippines


Participants are invited to carry out their own visa formalities.

1 - Visas can be obtained at the embassies and diplomatic representations of Côte d’Ivoire overseas


2 - E-visa requests can be lodged on the official website www.snedai.com or http://www.snedai.com/en/. A service desk will be opened at the airport for the issuing of valid passport stamps (US$ 40).


3 - To facilitate the issuance of visa confirmations, please register online at www.africa-emergence.com.


A participant/delegate must have a passport valid for at least three months and pay an amount of CFAF 20.000 (€ 35/US$ 40). All documents relating to the conference (letter of invitation or confirmation form or mission statement, etc.) will have to be provided.

Reception and facilities at the airport  

A team of Agents from State Protocol and members of the Organizing Committee will assist participants and delegates upon their arrival in Abidjan.

A system will be in place to welcome participants. Minibuses and official vehicles will be available to transport delegations from the airport to their hotels, and from hotels to the Conference venue.
